elissa Duncan is a local artist who has enjoyed working in many mediums for more than 20 years.
This collection of Tribal Animal Images are hand-engraved on refurbished local woods gathered by her many connections in the community.
Melissa's Great Grandmother's heritage was hidden for many years , listed as "Black Dutch", but through recent genealogy it has been discovered that her ancestors were indeed Virginia Algonquians, the Powhatan tribe.
While these pieces are not from any specific tribe, Melissa has spent many years with a passion for animals and studying her heritage. The first horse and moose images came to her in a dream and were the beginning to this collection of works. Enjoy!
